What we collect, what we do with it, and how to change your mind.

What we collect

We ask for information in one place, the form on Add your name. If you complete it we receive:

  • Your name and email address
  • Your country and postcode
  • What you said you would want to become
  • Why you added your name, and anything else you wrote
  • Your age range, and your religion or beliefs, if you answered
  • Whether you ticked to hear from us, to be approached about research, or to let us share your living memorial idea

Age, religion and belief are optional, and every question has a way past it. We ask because a parliament considering a law change asks who wants it.

What we do with it

We count you, and report that support in a deidentified format to government and industry. If you tick the box for it, we may also share what you said you would want to become, publicly and in a deidentified way, to raise awareness of what people want. We email you if you ticked to hear from us. We approach you about research only if you ticked that box.

Reports give numbers and patterns: how many people, which states, broad age groups. We never publish your name, email or postcode, nothing we share is attributed to you, and we do not pass your details to a politician, a party or a campaign. The one thing we may share is the living memorial you described, and only if you ticked the box for it. When you tick it you choose whether that appears with your first name or with no name at all, and no name is the default.

The tick boxes are separate, and none of them is a condition of adding your name. Tick nothing and you are still counted and will not hear from us. Every email we send has a working unsubscribe link.

Cookies and measurement

Nothing beyond the essentials loads until you choose on the banner. There are three kinds:

  • Essential. Remembers your banner choice, and holds your answers while you are part way through the form. Cannot be turned off, and is not used to track you.
  • Analytics. Google Analytics: which pages are read, what brought you here, whether people finish the form. Sets cookies and sends data to Google. Off until you accept.
  • Advertising. Lets us reach similar people on other sites and see whether that worked. Off until you accept, and not currently running.

Until you accept analytics, Google is not contacted for it. You can change your choice at any time in cookie settings, at the foot of every page, and it takes effect immediately.

Who else sees it

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We use service providers to run the site, store form entries and send email, and they may act only on our instructions.

Our typefaces are served by Google Fonts, so loading any page gives Google your IP address and basic browser information. One video sits on our About page; we host the still image ourselves, so nothing is requested from YouTube until you press play. If you do, YouTube receives your IP address and may set cookies.

If you accept analytics or advertising, Google also receives the data described above. Google is based in the United States, so that information leaves Australia.

How long we keep it

Until terramation is legal and available in Australia and we have told you, or until you ask us to delete it, whichever comes first.

Your rights

You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email contact@evergrove.life. We action requests within 30 days. You do not need to give a reason.

If we have handled your information badly, tell us and we will try to fix it. You can also complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

Children

We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us their details, email us and we will remove them.

If this changes

We will change the date at the top. If a change materially affects what we do with information you have already given us, we will email the people it affects.

Ask us anything

If anything here is unclear, our inbox is always open at contact@evergrove.life

A note from our founder

I know it can feel uncomfortable and scary to think about what happens to us when we pass away. These feelings are normal and deeply human, I still feel them too.

It takes courage and vulnerability to look death in the face but it’s a core part of the human experience that we all share. The more we understand and talk about our stories, the less power that fear has over us and the more we can connect with each other, and ourselves.

Evergrove’s purpose is to help write stories that end with hope, meaning and dignity. As for me, I hope my story ends as a very old, happy lady who becomes a Moreton Bay Fig Tree.

I dedicate this work to all those I’ve lost, especially my mum and grandmothers. Without you, Evergrove wouldn’t exist.
